The Destructive Power of ‘My’ – Many people take ownership of psychological problems by referring to them as my anxiety, my fear of losing money, my fear of missing out, my panic attacks, as a consequence the brain attaches importance to them, treating them like possessions to keep. Changing the narrative though, to The anxiety or the anxiety that I currently have creates a disconnect from the problem, it sends a message to the brain that it’s not yours, merely something you have at the moment and the brain then recognises that it’s transient, not something to keep, this helps you to dissociate from it, which in turn loosens its grip on the psyche.
